3 Ways to Fight a Cold Fast – Naturally

There’s nothing worse than the onset of an unwelcome cold. Let’s face it, people have suffered from the common cold for centuries. Here are three top secret food-based remedies that will surely alleviate your symptoms and get you over your cold fast. It is recommended to source fresh, organic and non GMO produce for optimal results.

Grilled Oranges

Oranges are natural immune boosters and rich in vitamins, especially vitamin C. They also alkalise the body and are beneficial in the treatment of colds and fevers. However, if you want to give your immune system an even stronger push, grilled oranges are your best bet. The pith of the orange contains vitamin P (bio-flavanoids) and the flesh is rich in vitamin C. Through the process of grilling, the skin and fleshy part interact which make it easier for the body to absorb both the bio-flavaniods and vitamin C. When vitamins C and P combine, the immune system of the body is activated and helps it to eliminate toxins.

Instructions for grilling

Portion 6 to 8 oranges

  • wash oranges

  • cut orange in half and place on baking sheet

  • set your oven to grill setting

  • grill until oranges are slightly browned at the top

  • allow oranges to cool

10 Juiced Kiwis

Kiwis are high in vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber. Kiwis not only help get rid of a cold or flu, but they are essential to preventing it in the first place. Vitamin C activates and increases the production of antibodies and white blood cells, which helps the body fight against infection. Recent research has suggested that by eating exotic kiwi fruit, cold and flu symptoms are alleviated faster than their control group counterparts. For this remedy, it is recommended to take 10 kiwis, wash them and then juice them with the skin in an electric fruit and vegetable juicer. Its always best to drink the juice as soon as its made. This concentrated and supercharged juice will give your body a large dose of vitamin C and other nutrients to help fight off your cold fast and boost your energy.

Broccoli with Lemon

Broccoli, known as a cancer fighting vegetable, is high in vitamin C and helps to strengthen the immune system. It is also rich in iron, zinc and vitamin K and contains a phytochemical called sulforphane that triggers the body’s production of the enzymes that protect a cell’s DNA from damage. High in fiber, broccoli works as roughage to clear the digestion and flush the cold out of your system. The recommended portion is one big head of broccoli steamed with pink Himalayan salt and fresh lemon per person and a protein as this is the best combination to help convey amino acids to the brain.  For the best results,  it’s important not to overcook the broccoli.
